Grown in the deep, sandy gravels of Frankland River, the 2024 Swinney Mourvèdre is structured, savoury and built for ageing. This is not a soft, jammy style. It is precise, medium-bodied and driven by tannin and spice.

The nose shows dark cherry, wild plum and blackberry layered with dried herbs, crushed fennel seed and a subtle earthy note. There’s no excess oak sweetness — just quiet framing that supports the fruit.

On the palate, the wine is firm and composed. Red and black fruit sit over fine, sandy tannins that carry through the mid-palate. Acidity is balanced and keeps the wine lifted rather than heavy. The finish is long, savoury and lightly spiced, with a mineral edge typical of the site.

This is Mourvèdre in a restrained Australian expression — structure first, fruit second.

Works best with lamb, slow-cooked beef, game, grilled mushrooms or hard aged cheeses. The tannin and spice need protein and depth.

Drink from 2026 onward or cellar 10–15 years. Expect the fruit to move toward dried cherry, leather and earthy complexity with time.

A serious, structured red with tension and ageing potential — not a plush crowd-pleaser, but a wine of intent.

Every wine is scored out of 100 under the Winetrust Scoring System: Flavour 50 (nose 15, palate 25, finish 10), Structure 25, Balance & Harmony 15, Presentation 10. Totals are computed, never hand-entered.

Two bottles minimum, tasted on separate occasions by a named reviewer, unblind — and disclosed. Gifted samples are declared. Price never touches the score — value is rated separately. Nothing below 87 is listed, and key wines are re-tasted at twelve months with their score history preserved.
